About Us

Sisters At The Well

Barbara Perkins,
Founder/President

Barbara Perkins founded Sisters at the Well, Inc. because of her personal desire to be in the company of inspiring women, committed to building upon the solid foundation of sisterhood, left by generations of strong black women. The idea and name was taken directly from the Bible.

Barbara believed then and now that when women gather at the metaphoric Well, together they would find answers to questions and solutions to problems.

Barbara Perkins, traveled around the world for over 22 years sharing her positive message of hope and ideas about the collective power of women. She has a unique and extraordinary ability to engage communities, understand issues and manage information. Her reputation as a strategic thinker has gained her access to all levels of government, prestigious boards, policy committees and community groups.

After a 17 year career with American Airlines, the American born, but Caribbean raised woman began her new career as a social entrepreneur. Her journey began with six years of training; undergraduate studies and completing her graduate work at Pacific Oaks College, in Pasadena, California where she is now on faculty.

Currently, Barbara is a sought after Inspirational Speaker, Political Advisor, Life Coach and Author of three books. As President of Sisters At The Well, Inc. and Friends of Sisters At The Well, Barbara continues to ensure opportunities for women to gather regularly to discuss topics deemed critical to the success of the black family and black community as a whole.

Mrs. Perkins is available for speaking engagements, training sessions and retreats.

Purpose
The purpose of Sisters At The Well, Inc. is to facilitate shared opportunities for women and to provide a forum for networking and support for programs that enhances the lives of black women, their families and communities.

Projects

Sisters Speak Series
Sisters Speak Series is a quarterly gathering of women designed to discuss a variety of topics of interest to the community. Topics such as Finding the Love You Deserve, Sisters Living a Spiritual Life, Women Speak on the Issue of Sexuality, Reclaiming Our Rituals, Awakening Eve, Sister Get Your Money Straight and many others have been discussed in our circle with expert facilitators and notable speakers.

We See You Awards
The Annual We See You Awards recognizes and celebrates the work of six outstanding women, whose collective work spans over 100 years of service to women and families across the country and abroad. Their work and efforts have helped to shape the world's view of women of color. This award is our way of saying, “thank you” for all that go unnoticed or untelevised. We simply want to say that “We See You.”

Coming Home Project
This project is an effort to help women survivors of Hurricane Katrina recover and rebuild their lives and communities. Two years after the devastating events of Katrina and Rita, families remain disconnected to what they knew as home and disconnected to family members and life long friends. At the urging of Susan L. Taylor and the Essence family, we are committed to seeing women whole again in mind, body, and spirit. Our efforts are focused on Life Coaching/Counseling, and housing needs.

Adopt A School Project
The Adopt A School Project is a one year commitment to a selected school to provide books, supplies and equipment that would assist the school in meeting its goals of educating the students enrolled. Through direct financial support, in-kind services and raising awareness about the school, we will ensure resources for the school that will otherwise be neglected.
